Project Overview

The Ghana Environmental Advocacy Group’s ECCP project aims to combat illegal mining (galamsey) and promote environmental conservation in Ghana’s Western regions through community empowerment and advocacy. Key activities include workshops, legal support, press conferences, and social media campaigns, engaging youth groups, local NGOs, and media partners.

Objectives:

  • Empower at least 50 community advocates for environmental protection.
  • Support youth against galamsey promoters.
  • Publicize the impact of irresponsible mining through media.
  • Establish conservation/alternative livelihood projects.

  • Workshops on mining laws for community leaders.
  • Networking and registration of youth groups.
  • Press events with over 400 participants.
  • Legal support for youth groups leading to successful outcomes against galamsey.

Outcomes:

  • Increased awareness of legal frameworks among youth leaders.
  • Youth groups empowered to combat illegal mining.
  • Successful legal battles resulting in acquittals and prevention of mining.
  • Strengthened collaboration among advocates and legal experts.
