Organisational Profile

The Environment Report’s mission is to objectively communicate nature and environmental frontline issues through evidence-based information, news reporting, storytelling, and advocacy. Their goal is to empower and inspire people to take pro-environmental actions by gathering and sharing evidence-based nature and environmental information. They aim to secure nature and the environment through environmental advocacy on critical nature- and people-related issues, contributing to environmental sustainability in Ghana and beyond. This is achieved by hosting a self-sustaining nature and environmental news portal, along with information dissemination and outreach programs that are accessible to people from all walks of life.

Project Overview

The project aimed to combat environmental degradation in Ghana caused by illegal mining, logging, and poor policies, while addressing inadequate media coverage of these issues. The Environment Report focused on media advocacy to raise awareness and influence policy.

Key objectives included:

  • Enhancing environmental conservation through targeted media campaigns.

  • Promoting pro-environmental behavior with well-researched information.

  • Strengthening environmental organizations by highlighting their work.

Beneficiaries included media professionals, NGOs, and community-based organizations, with activities such as media coverage, journalist training, and public forums.

Outputs:

  • Published 10 stories on environmental issues on ghenvironment.com.

  • Facilitated coverage for NGOs and their campaigns.

  • Issued five press statements on environmental and human rights issues.

  • Trained 15 journalists in environmental reporting.

  • Established a network for journalists to share ideas and stories.

  • Conducted field missions to advocate for local communities.

  • Held a public forum addressing eviction threats faced by salt miners.

Outcomes:

  • Increased public awareness through media publications.

  • Engaged policymakers, resulting in actions like withdrawing eviction notices for salt miners.

  • Strengthened collaborations with NGOs for broader media coverage.

  • Empowered journalists with skills and networks for effective reporting.

  • Influenced policy discussions, including investigations by the Environmental Protection Agency.

  • Supported local communities in advocating for their rights.

  • Raised €346 locally to support project activities.
